Description - D'Orlan Enamel and Pave Set Rhinestone Bird Brooch. Stunning tropical or bird of paradise brooch with blue and green enamel and pave set clear rhinestones by D'Orlan. The blue and green enamel feathers are finely detailed and the head feathers and body of the bird are pave set with clear rhinestones set in triple plated 22kt gold plating. The bird has a red glass cabochon eye and a polished gold plated beak and one foot is holding on to a branch. The brooch measures just over 3 inches long by just over 1 inch at the tail feathers.
The textured gold plate back is signed with the copyright symbol and 'D'Orlan' and has a safety 'C' catch pin. D'Orlan is a Canadian company started by Maurice Bradden in 1957, he was an apprentice to Marcel Boucher and managed the Avon of Belleville company (not the Avon of California), an Abe Mazer company with which Boucher was associated with and eventually bought the Boucher company in 1979, presumably from Sandra Boucher wife of Marcel Boucher. D'Orlan was also the manufacturer of 'Lancel' and 'Nina Ricci' fashion jewellery. This fabulous figural brooch is in excellent 'like new' condition.
