VIN 519
Description - Wonderful Victorian Medals. Both medals are brass and have amazing detail and very involved designs, the large medal measures 1.25 inches in diameter, the smaller medal measures 1.75 inches. The significance of all the symbols and wording are not understood, maybe you can help us dispher what they mean and help us on our research on these two lovely historical religious pieces. The Medals have not been cleaned personnaly I prefer the patina look, shows age and character, Circ Early 1900s.

I received a reply today 9 December 2009 from a very kind Lady who sent this information on what the symbols and wording means...
Medal VIN 519. I see you asked what the medal was. It is called the Miraculous Medal and was made after the Virgin Mary appeared to St. Catherine Laboure around the French Revolution. She asked that a medal like this be made. The stars signify the twelve apostles. The IHS on the back is Greek for the symbol of Christ. Many miracles occurred with persons wearing the medal. I wear one.

Thank you so much Mary for your kindness to help us. God Bless You.
