Vin595 Description ...Absolutely stunning antique 18k gold Micromosaic Brooch with original box case.
We are proud to find this rare beauty that was actually set and sold in Italy.
This brooch is circ 1860 and was sold at the jewellery shop of Salvatore Rosati on the upscale via Condotti in Rome.
The brooch is exceptional and depicts St Peter’s Square and the Vatican.
The colourful plaque exhibits the deft skill and painstaking craft necessary in setting
line upon line of minute glass fragments to form a recognizable picture. Each Tesserae mosaic piece is less than a millimeter wide. The face of the mosaic is like glass with no loss or repair.
The Brooch setting in the Etruscan revival style Pin stem shows Italian assay and makers marks, catch shows 18k hallmark for Rome used from 1815-1872.
Condition of mosaic is every good, one tiny tesserae on the right missing as shown, hardly noticable, there are some hairline cracks on the front of
the oynx and more significantly on the back. The plaque is very secure and there is no risk of loss.
There is a label on the back of the brooch and also
outside under the original box which reads Salvatore Rosati Via Condotti No.6 Roma on both labels. The brooch measures 2 inches x 2 inches.
This is an exquisite, very precious and rare find, considered museum quality, rare to find brooch in original presentation box
